One of the 15 major investment projects in Kazakhstan: China-built large-scale investment project for butadiene and synthetic rubber in Atyrau Oil City

The President of Kazakhstan set the task to approve a list of no less than 15 major projects in his 23rd State-of-the-Nation Address, which aims to create high-value-added clusters in priority areas of the economy.

The production plant of Butadien LLP in the Atyrau region for the production of butadiene and its derivatives, with an investment of $900 million, will create 750 jobs, with a launch date in 2028.

This project is a joint venture between Russia and Kazakhstan, with the Russian investor being Tatneft.

According to TASS on May 21, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bolatbek Beketayev met with General Director of Tatneft, Nair Maganov, in Astana today.

The two sides focused on discussing the progress of the large-scale investment project for butadiene and synthetic rubber located in Atyrau.

Maganov, in introducing the progress of the project, stated that they are actively cooperating with the contractor - China Huaneng Engineering Co., Ltd. The project plans to produce 60,000 tons of styrene-butadiene rubber annually, used in the rubber industry and tire manufacturing, 40,000 tons of styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer, used in road construction and plastic product production, as well as 40,000 tons of methyl tert-butyl ether, used as a high-octane gasoline additive. The project is expected to enter the investment phase on July 1 this year.
