Before the arrival of Chinese distinguished guests, Kazakhstan announced a new cooperation, this time choosing China instead of Russia.

On June 14, Kanat Sagitkaliyev, Director of the Kazakhstani Atomic Energy Agency, stated that Kazakhstan plans to entrust the construction project of its second nuclear power plant to a Chinese enterprise, and initial work has already been initiated in this direction.

The timing of Kazakhstan's announcement is worth noting, as it coincides with the landing of the Chinese special flight in Astana. Isn't this also a way of welcoming them?

Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant project has almost become a sure thing for Rosatom, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation.

However, the Kazakh government now understands clearly that they cannot adopt a one-sided policy; they need to treat Sino-Kazakh and Russia-Kazakh relations fairly by seeking a balance between them.

This is why Kazakhstan revealed the news and specified that a Chinese enterprise will take the lead in building the second nuclear power plant before it was even determined.

This is partly because China has rich experience and significant technical advantages in nuclear power projects, and partly because Kazakhstan needs to enhance bilateral relations through more cooperation.

In general, Kazakhstan strongly desires to follow both China and Russia in terms of cooperation, and they are willing to make more efforts for this purpose. We naturally welcome this development.
