Mongolia's strategic "third neighbor" - the United States

The "third neighbor" is Mongolia's diplomatic strategy, enabling Mongolia to establish relations with countries that do not have geographical borders but are capable of acting as security guarantors. On February 10, 2011, the State Great Khural included this diplomatic policy in the resolution it passed.

Russian Satellite News Agency, Beijing, August 2, 2024 - Mongolian President Khurelsukh met with U.S. Secretary of State Blinken in Ulaanbaatar and stated that strengthening relations with the United States is one of Mongolia's diplomatic priorities.

Blinken pointed out that the United States is very pleased to be Mongolia's third neighbor and hopes to go further, becoming a good neighbor.

Mongolian News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, May 30 - Today, Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg had a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The ministers expressed satisfaction with the strengthening of relations and cooperation between Mongolia and the United States under the framework of their trilateral strategic partnership.

Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg emphasized that since his visit to the United States in 2024, works such as establishing an English teaching excellence center have gradually become a reality. United Airlines also stressed that opening the Tokyo-Ulaanbaatar route is crucial for enhancing travel, tourism, and business relations between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides exchanged views on further expanding economic and trade cooperation in mutually beneficial fields, including ensuring the implementation of the second Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact and continuing to effectively carry out the "Responsible Travel" campaign jointly conducted by Mongolia, the United States, and South Korea.
