According to Bloomberg, Donald Trump plans to increase the U.S. military budget to a record $1.01 trillion.
In 2026, U.S. national security spending will increase by 13%. The White House compared this plan to the large-scale military expansion during the Reagan era in the 1980s. The draft budget includes the "Iron Dome" air defense system, warship construction, modernization of the nuclear triad, and a 3.8% pay raise for military personnel.
Meanwhile, Trump also proposed cutting civilian spending by 22.6%, covering areas such as foreign aid, education, research, environmental protection, "green" energy, anti-racial inequality programs, and NASA's space projects.
On the other hand, according to Reuters, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte plans to propose a plan to gradually increase the defense spending of NATO member states to 5% of GDP to Trump.
Rutte suggested that countries increase their military spending to 3.5% of GDP and allocate an additional 1.5% for broader security-related expenditures.
