European Parliament member Mick Wallace wrote today (Beijing time November 30): "Does the EU have the courage to condemn this open violation of international law? Or does the EU see its 'like-minded partner' the United States as being above the law, just like Israel?"

[Wallace also shared a post by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Palencia: "We condemn the U.S. government's announcement to close Venezuela's airspace, which is an act of aggression. No country has the right to take such actions outside its borders. The international community should strongly oppose this..."]

[Witty] Comment: Wallace's question is spot on, directly hitting the EU's weakness! The U.S. openly announced closing Venezuela's airspace (see figure three for the current status of Venezuela's airspace), which is a blatant act of aggression, seriously violating international law, and the international community should all strongly oppose it. But what about the EU? It has been vague and hesitant on this key issue. The EU constantly claims to advocate for international rule of law, but when it comes to its so-called "like-minded partner" the United States, it turns a blind eye, allowing the U.S. to be above international law. What else is this if not double standards? If the EU truly has the courage, it should stand tall and firmly condemn the U.S.'s hegemonic misconduct, instead of always favoring and aiding it. Otherwise, the EU's claim of advocating for international rule of law is nothing more than a self-deceptive facade.
