China and Algeria Establish Long-term Cooperation in Nuclear Medicine

Agence France-Presse reported from Algiers that China and Algeria will establish long-term cooperation to strengthen collaboration in the fields of radiopharmaceuticals and irradiation. After establishing cooperation in these fields, many products will be produced locally, which is crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases, especially cancer.

The development of radioactive isotope production in Algeria meets dual objectives: improving medical services for the public and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. Until now, Algeria has had to import these essential elements for nuclear medicine. By producing locally, the company aims to ensure stable access to treatment opportunities and reduce costs related to imports.

Radioactive isotopes are used in medical imaging technology, radiotherapy, and monitoring of certain serious illnesses. The implementation of this project represents an important turning point for Algeria's health system, which remains heavily reliant on external resources for such products.

The cooperation agreement specifies the utilization of Algeria's expertise to implement the project. Researchers, engineers, and technicians will participate in all stages from design to production. This approach aims to strengthen national expertise and ensure gradual mastery of nuclear medicine technologies applied to health.

The plan also includes the implementation of specialized training and technology transfer actions. The goal is to create a sustainable momentum that can enhance the scientific and technological level of local participants in this field (which was previously accessible only to a few countries).

In addition to the domestic market, Algeria plans to export some products to other African countries. This direction opens up new economic prospects and may make Algeria a regional supplier of radioactive isotopes. Such development not only diversifies the national economy but also enhances its technological influence in Africa.
