At the China-Latin America Forum in Beijing, China promised to provide a credit line of 66 billion yuan to Latin America. About 30 Latin American countries attended the ministerial conference held once every three years.
Cooperation extends to high-tech fields
Beijing said that in addition to traditional fields such as infrastructure, agriculture, grain, energy, and minerals, both sides will also expand into emerging fields such as clean energy, 5G communication, digital economy, and artificial intelligence. For example, cooperation on China-Latin America satellites and the successful opening of the Chancay Port in Peru.
China also announced visa exemption for five Latin American countries but did not disclose details.

Last year, Brazil accounted for nearly half of the $240 billion worth of goods imported from Latin American countries. According to customs data, bilateral trade between China and Latin America reached $525 billion in 2024 and $450 billion in 2013, while it was only $12 billion in 2000.
Colombian President Petro said that he intended to sign an agreement to join Beijing's "Belt and Road" initiative during this visit. Two-thirds of Latin American countries have joined the "Belt and Road".
Meanwhile, China has surpassed the United States to become the largest trading partner of Latin American countries such as Brazil, Peru, and Chile. Chilean President Boric said that economic relations with China will rise.
Brazil plans to build a railway line to the Chancay Port. According to media reports, Colombia is also considering joining the "Belt and Road". Venezuela seeks closer cooperation with Chinese oil enterprises.
