According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), on October 22, the North Korean Missile General Bureau successfully conducted an important weapons system test. Two hypersonic flight vehicles were launched from the Namsan district in Pyongyang towards the northeast direction, striking a target point at Gwido Mountain in Hwanggangbuk Province.

Kim Kyong-hyok, Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee, Kim Jong-sik, First Deputy Minister of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee, and Zhang Chang-ho, Director of the North Korean Missile General Bureau, observed the test.

Kim Kyong-hyok emphasized that the advanced level of the new weapons system clearly proves that the DPRK's self-defense national defense technology is continuously being updated and upgraded.

KCNA commented that the test of the new weapons system is part of the DPRK's national defense force development plan, aiming to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of strategic deterrence against potential adversaries.

The Yonhap News Agency reported that this time, the DPRK only mentioned "new weapons system" without introducing specific parameters such as missile types. Given that the DPRK refers to it as a "hypersonic vehicle," the missile tested by the DPRK might be the KN-23 short-range ballistic missile "Mars-11戊" that was displayed during the DPRK Workers' Party's 80th anniversary parade earlier this month. This missile is equipped with a warhead that resembles a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV).
