According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced his resignation as party leader on April 9, effectively indicating his intention to run for the South Korean presidency.

Lee Jae-myung made the remarks at a meeting of the Democratic Party's Supreme Committee held at the National Assembly in Seoul that day.
