Russian expert: Russia and China need to shift from trade cooperation to investment and technology cooperation
In an interview with the Russian Satellite Communications Agency, Alexei Maslov, Dean of the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University, stated that Russia and China need to shift from simple trade cooperation to investment and technology cooperation.
On May 8, a series of documents for the development of cooperation in various fields were signed between China and Russia, including education, media, aerospace, peaceful use of nuclear energy, automobile manufacturing, and other fields.
Maslov believed: "In my opinion, one of the main problems in Russia-China cooperation is the lack of serious mutual investment. Automobile manufacturing and aerospace are exactly the fields where we can most effectively carry out investment cooperation. The main idea is that it is necessary for Russia and China to shift from simple trade cooperation to investment and technology cooperation."
Maslov stated: "For example, at present, we see a rapid increase in the sales of Chinese cars in Russia, and Chinese cars are also actively entering the Russian market, but we have not yet seen a significant increase in the number of Chinese or Sino-Russian joint venture factories."
Maslov further stated: "Regarding the cooperation in the aerospace field between Russia and China, we have repeatedly heard hints about the joint launch of spacecraft by both sides. In this field, I believe that our two countries just need to overcome certain concerns."
