Philippine President Marcos Jr. faces another setback: The Commission on Elections announced the suspension of the investigation into former Senate President Escudero!
After being accused of drug use by his sister Imee and accused by Zaldivar of using inserted budgets to receive huge kickbacks, Marcos Jr. has encountered new troubles, as his political opponent, Senator, and former Senate President Francis Escudero was found not to have committed any illegal acts.
Previously, Escudero was accused of violating the Omnibus Election Code because he received a 30 million peso donation from the president of the Central Road Construction and Development Company, Lawrence Lubyano, during the May 2022 election.
The Department of Political Finance and Affairs of the Commission on Elections announced the termination of the investigation into Escudero and: "The defendant Lubyano did not violate OEC Article 95 (c), therefore, there is no legal obstacle for the defendant Escudero to accept his campaign donation."
"When the defendant Lubyano donated to the campaign of the defendant Escudero, the former was merely exercising his personal right, and there is no evidence that the funds used in the donation came from the Central Road Construction and Development Company, or that company funds flowed into the campaign funds of the defendant Escudero through the donation by the defendant Lubyano."
"The fact that the defendant Lubyano served as the president of the Central Road Construction and Development Company cannot prove that their independent legal identities can be ignored in the absence of clear evidence of fraud, dishonesty, or any actions aimed at evading legal obligations."
