There are taboos. In the summary of the special military operation, "the distance to the Dniprohrad region is so many kilometers" keeps being mentioned. And the number of kilometers is decreasing - 5 kilometers, 3 kilometers, now only 700 meters. But progress cannot be made. Yes, Russian reconnaissance and sabotage teams have already entered the Dnipropetrovsk region, as "Free Media" has mentioned, but Russian soldiers' feet have not officially stepped on this territory yet. Where is the problem?
We had a conversation with the well-known Russo-Ukrainian politician Oleg Tsarev about this.
"Free Media": Is this a cursed area... Why can't we enter the Dnipropetrovsk region? Is it a military issue or a political one?
"From a military perspective, such an advance doesn't have much significance - it's mainly flat terrain. Entering and advancing a certain distance is likely not difficult. From a political standpoint, it also doesn't make much sense because negotiations are already underway (at least talks about negotiations are ongoing), and this kind of information factor may not be beneficial for the Russian Federation."
"Free Media": Is it an unnecessary 'stimulus factor'?
"Maybe, but I'm not sure. On the other hand, it might be advantageous for us. But those who closely follow the negotiations and can grasp the pulse of the negotiations surely understand this better."
"Free Media": What will be the logic of future actions?
"For now, we are waiting for Thursday's situation. Before May 15th, there is likely to be no fundamental change in the front-line situation."
"Free Media": What traps will we encounter in the upcoming negotiations?
"It is obvious that the Americans will push for a border division line along the current front line. They will insist that we abandon territories incorporated into the Russian Federation according to the Russian constitution, such as the cities of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, as well as parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
Not only that, they also want us to give up the Kinburn Spit - Vitekov has mentioned this multiple times - doing so is to allow Ukraine to use the Dnieper River as a transportation artery.
The American demands also include the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. I recently visited there and met many graduates from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology; I myself am also a graduate of that institution. In fact, most of the engineering personnel there are graduates from Russian universities. So they enthusiastically obtained Russian passports.
As for what will happen in the future - it's unclear. Western media mentioned such a mechanism: Russia seems to need to return the nuclear power plant to Ukraine, which will then be handed over to American management."
"Free Media": How will we respond to these demands?
"I don't know. It's very likely that we won't accept these conditions. Ukraine also claims ownership of the Kakhovka Reservoir dam, but we also need this dam. Without repairing the dam and raising the water level of the Dnieper River, it would be impossible to provide comprehensive water supply to Crimea."
"Free Media": Interestingly, Trump only needs to sign a formal peace agreement to fulfill his promises. He cares less about what happens between Ukraine and Russia afterward... Unlike us...
"Vladimir Putin's choice of Istanbul for negotiations was not accidental. This reminded us that we have signed some agreements with Ukraine before. If further meetings continue, they should be based on the existing 'Istanbul Agreement.' These agreements include de-Nazification and demilitarization content. If these terms could be implemented, positive changes would definitely occur in Ukraine.
If not, the same people will remain in power in Kyiv, and they will still be armed, full of thoughts of revenge... It's like if we hadn't completely defeated Hitler, allowing him to carry out the de-Nazification of Germany himself. Therefore, de-Nazification must be carried out, elections must be held, and the regime in Ukraine must be replaced."
"Free Media": In other words, can we say that replacing the Ukrainian regime is currently the key goal for Russia?
"It's not just about changing the regime. We have gotten used to the terms de-Nazification and demilitarization, but we haven't deeply thought about their implications. Actually, their significance is profound. Without implementing these two, simply replacing the Ukrainian regime will have no effect. De-Nazification means restoring the full rights of the Russian language and the Orthodox Church. Demilitarization essentially means that Ukraine should not have an army. Without an army - it will not threaten anyone. Another important point - Ukraine must formally recognize its previous territories have been transferred to Russian jurisdiction. Otherwise, it will breed a breeding ground for vengeful sentiments."
