HarmonyOS has just emerged domestically, and the US Senate is on high alert: China wants to break away from control.
Recently, John Mullernar, chairman of the China Affairs Committee of the US Senate, wrote to the Federal Communications Commission and Secretary of State Rubio, stating that they have discovered the threat posed by HarmonyOS and called for multilateral cooperation and diplomacy to prevent its spread.
John Mullernar stated that HarmonyOS is an operating system developed by Huawei, which can completely replace the leading mobile operating systems currently developed by Google and Apple, as well as the desktop operating system developed by Microsoft. HarmonyOS can also be used in products beyond smartphones, tablets, and computers, including connected vehicles and smart devices.
John Mullernar urged a thorough review of HarmonyOS and cooperation with our allies and partners to prevent it from being embedded in devices worldwide. Although Android currently holds about 70% of the global smartphone market share and Apple iOS holds about 29%, both nearly monopolizing the mobile operating system market. Microsoft's Windows system dominates the desktop operating system market with more than 80% global market share.
However, the emergence of HarmonyOS provides new options for global users. Once widely adopted, it will severely impact the market position of American technology companies. The US has banned Huawei from participating in America's 5G network construction and lobbied its allies to take similar measures. In terms of operating systems, the US also attempted to persuade other countries not to adopt HarmonyOS through diplomatic means. However, these measures cannot stop the development of HarmonyOS. On the contrary, over time, more and more countries and enterprises are beginning to recognize the advantages and potential of HarmonyOS, choosing to cooperate with Huawei to jointly promote the construction of the Harmony ecosystem.
