According to Decision Desk HQ's prediction, Cory Bowman, Vice President Vance's half-brother, is expected to advance in the Cincinnati mayoral primary election and challenge the current Democratic mayor Aftab Pureval in the November general election.
Bowman is a local pastor who also runs a coffee shop. In the nonpartisan primary held on Tuesday, he successfully stood out, defeating competitors including another Republican Brian Frank. According to Cincinnati city election rules, all candidates compete on the same ballot regardless of party affiliation, and the top two vote-getters will advance to the mayoral general election in November.
A few hours before the polls closed, Vice President Vance posted on X, supporting Bowman's campaign and calling him a "good person with a heart for community service," encouraging voters to "go vote for him quickly."
In February, Bowman told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he had initially communicated with Vance, stating that it was Vance who inspired him to run for office.
Bowman said he is ready for the tough mayoral race, but analysts pointed out that in this long-standing Democratic-leaning city, Pureval is almost certain to win. Cincinnati has not had a Republican mayor for more than 50 years, and Pureval, who has been in office since 2022, is widely considered a strong candidate for re-election.
