On May 20th, Guo Mingqi, an analyst of TF International Securities, revealed on the social platform X that Amazon is planning to develop a large-sized foldable device, similar to Huawei's MateBook Fold launched on May 19th.
Guo Mingqi stated: "Apple's competitors in the large-sized foldable device market may not be limited to Huawei. My investigation shows that Amazon is also discussing a similar product internally. It has not been officially initiated yet. If development proceeds smoothly, it is expected to start mass production around the end of 2026 or early 2027 (Apple's 18.8-inch foldable product is expected to start mass production at the end of 2027 or early 2028)."

Last year, Guo Mingqi released an investigation report on Apple's large-sized foldable device. The report showed that the final display size specification for this foldable MacBook would be 18.8 inches. Due to technical challenges in the display and mechanical aspects, the assembly and mass production plan was postponed until the end of 2027 or early 2028.
Some market observers previously expected Apple to release a foldable iPad in 2025, but current supply chain investigations show no definitive conclusion regarding the foldable iPad. Guo Mingqi believes this might be because some people refer to the foldable MacBook as a foldable iPad.
In addition, according to The Information, Apple also plans to launch its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026. This phone will use a book-style folding method, with a screen size of 5.7 inches when folded and close to 8 inches when unfolded.
On May 19th, during Huawei's new product launch event, the first HarmonyOS foldable laptop MateBook made its debut with a starting price of 23,999 yuan. This model features an ultra-lightweight foldable design, with a screen size reaching 18 inches when unfolded. Its thinnest part is only 7.3 mm, weighing 1.16 kg when folded and measuring 13 inches. The overall resolution is 3.3K, supporting HDR Vivid adaptive color mapping and P3 wide color gamut adaptive color management.
Guo Mingqi stated that Huawei's production target for MateBook Fold is expected to be between 180,000 and 200,000 units. He believes that its final sales performance, product lifecycle, and potential for subsequent products largely depend on user feedback, especially in terms of software experience.
In terms of hardware, Guo Mingqi believes that the biggest selling point of Huawei MateBook Fold lies in its display size, resolution, weight, and thickness. Compared to competitors like Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold and Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, it offers a larger and higher-resolution display while maintaining a slimmer body.
