Serbian President Vucic rejected the appeal by European Council President Costa to condemn Russia, stating that he has a responsibility to do what is right for Serbia, not to act for the European Council.
Vucic noted after meeting with Costa, "I have no obligation to obey anyone. My duty is to serve the people of Serbia. This is what I will continue to do. I announced my plan to visit Moscow, and I never lie. Naturally, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazism. We also discussed gas contracts. Serbia will continue on its European path, but sometimes, the Serbian president may have different opinions. However, even with these differences, I have never questioned Serbia's European path."
In this meeting, Costa urged Serbia to work together with the EU to "overcome historical issues," fully support the EU's foreign policy, condemn Russia and support Ukraine, and achieve normalization of relations with Kosovo, calling these measures necessary for Serbia's ongoing accession process to the EU.
