Philippine Congressman Laveist has demanded that the Department of Public Works and Highways disclose the database of project supporters in the national spending plan. Laveist stated that the 2025 budget increased by 721.83 billion pesos, and the 2026 budget increased by 496.97 billion pesos, with these figures hiding projects inserted by officials and congressmen.
"To be honest, I cannot just sit by and watch the Department of Public Works and Highways claim to support transparency without pointing this out. At the next press conference, they should admit that they are hiding something, and that the new economic policy has been inserting budgets so far."
Laveist emphasized that the government may be unwilling to release all the data, as it not only includes projects inserted by members of parliament and senators, but also projects added by current cabinet secretaries, deputy ministers, and others.
