June 5, the National Council of Slovakia approved and adopted a resolution proposed by the Slovak National Party (SNS), which rejects imposing sanctions and trade restrictions on the Russian Federation. It is reported that the purpose of this resolution is to protect the economic and energy interests of Slovakia. Among the 76 deputies, 51 voted in favor, only 1 person voted against, and 23 abstained.
The text of the parliamentary resolution pointed out that members of the Slovak government will no longer vote in favor of imposing new sanctions and trade restrictions on Russia within international organizations and alliances that Slovakia has joined, as well as within the framework of international treaties signed by Slovakia.
It is worth mentioning that about a month ago, activists in Slovakia submitted a petition for a national referendum to cancel sanctions against Russia to the President's Office.
Slovakia is one of the two EU member states that support Russia, the other being Hungary.
