[Russia launches "Iskander" missile strike on Ukrainian special forces training base]
On May 20th, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian military struck a training camp of the 1st Independent Special Operations Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Shostk area of Sumy Region through "Iskander" missiles. Nearly 70 enemy personnel were eliminated, including about 20 instructors (it is unclear whether foreign mercenaries are included), and the ammunition depot and nearly 10 military vehicles of the Ukrainian army were destroyed.
The Russian military disclosed that after reconnaissance actions identified the camp, the "Iskander" missile unit conducted precise strikes based on coordinates. Officially released videos showed a suspected group of Ukrainian special forces reserve personnel on the move. Then the drone camera zoomed out, showing a violent explosion in the distance, accompanied by flames, thick smoke, and shockwaves spreading in all directions.
It is worth noting that at the end of April, the Russian military had launched an attack on the same area, destroying the gathering Ukrainian military forces and military targets. This operation was seen as continuous pressure on the Ukrainian military deployment.
