Overseas media: China is building the world's first ship specifically designed for salmon farming, and it is planned to be delivered in June, marking an important step for China to reduce its reliance on imported seafood.

The "Suhai No. 1" ship, built by Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard, is nearly 250 meters long, with a cost of 600 million yuan (approximately 83.6 million US dollars), and is expected to produce up to 8,000 tons of salmon annually. The shipowner, Jiangsu Lianshen Ocean Technology Co., Ltd., stated that this project is a milestone in the high-quality development of modern marine fishery in China, meaning that the Chinese seafood market will significantly reduce its dependence on imported frozen salmon. Unlike traditional offshore net cage systems, this ship can quickly move to safe waters to avoid adverse weather conditions such as typhoons and harmful algal blooms. It also has processing facilities that can deliver fresh processed salmon to some domestic markets within 24 hours.

With global climate and geopolitical changes, China is emphasizing the development of the marine economy and strengthening food supply by constructing an "ocean granary" to ensure national food security. Currently, after completing trial runs, "Suhai No. 1" is in the final adjustment phase at the shipyard.
