India's External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said that the current tensions between India and Pakistan are far from reaching the level of a potential nuclear conflict.
In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, when asked how close the world is to a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan, Jaishankar said, "Very, very far." According to him, the recent military conflicts between India and Pakistan "have never reached" the nuclear level. He expressed deep unease about the notion that everything happening in our region would directly lead to nuclear issues, as it could encourage terrible actions like terrorism. In his view, on the contrary, the "nuclear issues" in the western part of the world are more prominent.
Jaishankar stated that the actions taken by the Indian army against Pakistan were "carefully measured, thoughtfully considered, and non-escalatory measures" aimed at targeting "terrorist" objectives. He explained: "Afterwards, the Pakistani army fired at us. We showed them our ability to cripple their air defense systems. Following this, at their request, the firing stopped." (Source: TASS)
