[Macron Calls on Trump to Respond to Putin's 'Cynicism']
On May 17th, French President Macron called on Trump to respond to Putin's 'cynical behavior' in the Ukraine conflict.
Macron said, "Given President Putin's cynicism, I believe - and am convinced - that President Trump will respond to this, out of his commitment to maintaining America's credibility," adding that Trump took office as U.S. President with the noble goal of preserving peace and expressed his intention to work towards achieving this goal together with all parties.
On the evening of the 17th, Trump announced that he would speak with Putin at 10:00 AM Moscow time (3:00 PM Moscow time) on Monday, May 19th. He revealed that he plans to discuss a ceasefire in Ukraine and trade issues with Putin, and mentioned that he intends to call Zelenskyy afterward. He also hopes that after speaking with Putin, a ceasefire may be achieved in Ukraine. Later that evening, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Peskov confirmed that the Kremlin is preparing for Putin's telephone talks with Trump.
